First Meeting to Select Candidates for museum Education Project
(Exchange of Persons Program for Japan)

  1. Mr. Bennett presided at this preliminary meeting. He explained that these tours are financed by Garioa funds and that two points must be insisted upon:
    1. Only such candidates should be chosen as can be made effective use of upon their return to Japan.
    2. They must have a reasonably adequate command of English.
  2. A brief exposition of the project as so far formulated was given by Mr. Bennett, followed by general discussion.
  3. Dr. Ueno had no young persons po◆◆◆ing the necessary qualifications; so at first Mr. Ishida selected one candidate and Mr. Fujikawa a further two. All three of these men are at present on the staff of the National Museum.
  4. As the discussion continued, however, three other names were mentioned; so the meeting ended with the submission of six names in all, and arrangements were made for the undersigned to have short interviews with all these men as soon as possible.
